9 Places to Eat on the Bangalore - Mysore Highway

The Bangalore – Mysore highway sees frequent travellers between the two cities, some for weekend getaways, long drives, work, or to experience the food. And if you fall under the category of a foodie, then this list is for you. The Bangalore-Mysore highway is dotted with decades-old eateries that serve nothing but the best, from buttery Idlis, Vadas, and Dosas to flavourful Paaya Fish Fry, and even sweets.

1. Shri Renuukamba Thatte Idli, Bidadi

This is one of the first pitstops one will encounter on the Bangalore-Mysore highway. Bangaloreans in the know plan a cycle and bike ride to Bidadi, with the sole intent of stopping by for breakfast here. While they also serve rice varieties and Dosas, the buttery Thatte Idlis with Medu Vada and Peanut Chutney are what make it worth the trip.

You could visit this iconic eatery nestled in the toy town of Channapatna on your way to Mysore and stop by at the Chowki for an evening meal on your way back to Bangalore.

3. Kamat Lokaruchi Veg Restaurant - Ramanagara

Maddur Vade gets its name from the village of Maddur, where the dish was invented over 100 years ago, and to enjoy a piping hot serving, stop at Maddur Tiffany. The small eatery is on the way from Bangalore to Mysore, but is popular with those driving in the evening, in both directions. There is nothing quite like enjoying the strong filter coffee paired with the crispy Maddur Vade in the chill evening breeze. They also provide car service, so you can sit in your vehicle as you eat.

5. Jai Bhuvaneshwari Miltry Hotel, Srirangapatna 

Stop by this 45-year-old military hotel to indulge in their appetizing meat dishes if you want to feast on a naati-style meal. Enjoy succulent meat dishes like Kheema Boti, Liver Fry, Chicken Palav, and Leg Soup that are sure to please your palate. Be on the lookout for an orange-colored house on B M Road, Baburayanakoppalu, right after the HP Petrol Bunk.

You would be mistaken if you assumed Poojari Fish Land was solely about fish - the menu also features varied vegetarian delicacies from Mangalore.

Have a hearty lunch at this home-turned-small-restaurant located outside Srirangapatna. The family-run Shri Chamundeshwari Military hotel is close to 60 years old, sending out dishes like Chicken Kebab, Mutton Dry, Fish Fry, Mutton Biriyani, and Chicken Biryani for a sumptuous feast.

Their Khaima Masala and Mutton Dry are the best of the lot.

9. Hotel Shri Janardhan (Mysore Park Hotel), Ramanagara

While the eateries recommended above will quench your hunger, a visit to this 96-year-old sweetmeat shop will feed your soul. The hotel offers a limited menu with items like Badam Halwa, Special Masala Dosa, Benne Murukku, and Chow Chow Bath, but the true draw is undoubtedly their fabled Mysore Pak. So heavenly is their Ghee Mysore Pak that the establishment began to be called the Mysore Pak Hotel.
